"Quiet the Mind and The Soul Will Speak"
~Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati
Meditation can be defined as a set of practices that are intended to heighten our awareness, focus our attention, and center the mind. Every major religion in the world uses some form of meditation, but the art of meditation itself is not linked to any particular lineage or religion. For this reason, anyone who belongs to any faith, and those who do not subscribe to a particular faith can practice it.
Meditation can be also used in variety of psychotherapeutic environments as a method towards stress release and trauma recovery.
A regular meditation practice can have both physiological and psychological effects. Some of the positive physiological effects include:
~Reduced Respiration Rate
~Decrease in Heart Rate
~Changes in Brain Wave Activity
~Lowered Physical Arousal
~Lower Stress Levels
~Pain Reduction
~Immune System Boost
~Improved Sleep
Some of the other psychological, emotional, and health-related benefits of meditation include:
~Elevated management of Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Sleep Disorders, Pain and High Blood Pressure.
~Improved Stress Management Skills
~Improved Focus and Attention
~Improved Emotional Well-Being
~Improved Memory and Emotional Intelligence Skills
~Increased Empathy for yourself and others
